What do 18th-century German emigrants in Limerick have in common with mustard and heartache in modern-day Dublin? Nothing? Oh yes they do! They stand for new Irish drama, which the Staatstheater Mainz will present and develop in Germany together with Fishamble – The New Play Company. In an exciting double project, two great female Irish Writers will present their work to the German public.
Award-winning playwright Deirdre Kinahan (Der Vorfall) will take up a writing residency in March 2024 to research and develop a new play Off to New Shores! exploring the story of the Palatines, a small German emigrant community in Ireland. In May the PLUG&PLAY Festival for Young Directors will host a guest performance of Mustard by the brilliant Eva O’Connor.
