Studio Quantum, a new artist-in-residence and events programme from Goethe-Institut, is delighted to present a series of exploratory talks and groundbreaking performances around quantum technologies and music in collaboration with CTM Festival. The event will take place in Berlin’s Radialsystem on 2nd of February 2024 with renowned international artists, experts and scientists.
Studio Quantum Artist-in-Residence Edy Fung and musician/composer Muiredach O’Riain will share some of the new work created as part of Edy’s residency.
The programme will also include input from Professor Oliver Benson (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin) with an insightful introduction to quantum technologies, Professor Gesche Joost (Universität der Künste Berlin) who will shine a spotlight on the intersection of quantum technologies and creativity, and Professor Eduardo Reck Miranda (ICCMR, Plymouth University) who will discuss his work in harnessing quantum computers to create music. The evening will conclude with a concert of Quantum Computer Music – performed by Eduardo Reck Miranda, Federico Visi, Maria Aguado, Paulo Itaborai, Dino Vicente, Pete Thomas and Colin Harrington.
More informationEdy Fung is a post-disciplinary artist, curator and music composer. Her current research focuses on the origins of machine electronics, logic and philosophy of information. Her work has been added to the National Collection at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. In Northern Ireland Edy Fung has exhibited and performed at the art galleries Platform Arts and Golden Thread Gallery in Belfast as well as at Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin and CCA Derry~Londonderry in Derry. Together with her sonic project Quantum Foam//QNTMFM, her practice seeks to explore and address current technological paradigms and the resulting epistemic limitations.
Edy Fung will be joined by Muiredach O’Riain, an Irish musician, composer and programmer based in Stockholm. A graduate of the Electroacoustic Music Composition Masters programme at Kungliga Musikhögskolan, his work deals with the emergent relationships between people and developing technologies such as A.I. and quantum computing while exploring their potentials as creative tools.
