Booker-nominated Irish writer Paul Murray undertakes a multi-city book tour through Germany in support of his acclaimed novel ‘The Bee Sting’, described in the press as a “tragicomic triumph”.
“The Bee Sting” is about the Barnes family, who are in various difficulties: Dickie Barnes’ lucrative car business is no longer running, but instead of facing up to the problem, he starts building a bunker in the woods. His wife Imelda, who sells her jewellery on eBay, finds the advances of Big Mike, the rich cattle farmer, increasingly attractive. Eighteen-year-old Cass, who has always been top of her class, reacts to the decline by deciding to get drunk every day until she graduates, while twelve-year-old PJ concocts a plan to run away from home.
“Paul Murray is my favourite Irish author. ‘The Sting of the Bee’ confirms all his talents.” – Gary Shteyngart
