Meant to Fade is a curated group exhibition featuring artworks that celebrate ephemerality, transformation, and the temporalities of non-toxic, natural, and living materials. The works push against long-standing norms of artistic display and function, challenging the notion of creations outliving their creators. In a world finally coming to terms with the damaging environmental impacts of certain materials and methods, artists featured in Meant to Fade have embraced impermanence and decay.

This exhibition will include the work of Ireland-based artists Christine Mackey, Dearbhla Ryan, Joanna Hopkins, and Christine Prescott and German artists Naomi Liesenfeld, Julia Rabusai and Lucila Pacheco Dehne, working with alternative photographic processes, repurposed textiles, plant-based inks, and sculptural arrangements of the found and foraged.

Meant to Fade is curated by artists Katerina Gribkoff and Phoebe Tohl through an open call process. The curators met while working towards graduate degrees at the Burren College of Art in County Clare.

Katerina Gribkoff is a visual artist based in western Ireland. Her research aims to find alternative, livable ways of making and creating in tandem with growing systems. She has shown work at the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s Eco Festival and 126 Gallery in Galway.

Phoebe Tohl is an artist and curator based in western Ireland. Her practice centres around eco-materiality and craft. Most recently, she co-curated the show, Meant to Fade, at Laneway Gallery in Cork.
