She is a master student of the world-famous Marina Abramovic and herself one of Ireland’s most successful contemporary artists: Amanda Coogan!
The exhibition provides a foretaste of what awaits you soon at our major performance art open air con\temporary WUPPERTAL. Under the title The Beautiful Now, Amanda Coogan will take over the city centre of Wuppertal-Elberfeld from 29 June: 12 performance works by Coogan will be performed live on 29 June – simultaneously at different locations, each for 6 hours – linked by an open-air exhibition lasting several weeks.
Tuilleadh eolaisAMANDA COOGAN was born in Dublin in 1971. She studied under Professor Marina Abramovic at the HBK Braunschweig (master student) and at the National College of Art and Design Dublin. She has been honoured with the Allied Irish Bank’s Art Prize. In 2003 she was represented at the 50th Biennale di Venezia with “Recycling the Future”. Other important exhibitions: Liverpool Biennial, PS1 MoMa New York, The Whitworth Gallery Manchester, The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam, The MAC Belfast, The Niemeyer Centre Spain, The National Gallery of Ireland, Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, Irish Museum of Modern Art Dublin She lives and works in Dublin and Belfast.
As a CODA (child of deaf parents), she is very committed to the deaf community and frequently collaborates with the Dublin Theatre of the Deaf.
Coogan recently translated Beethoven’s Ninth into sign language and developed a live performance with deaf performers.
