In a realm woven by the mesmerising melodies of the Lou McMahon Ensemble+, behold the enchanting spectacle Butterfly Wars. A mystical theatrical creation where harmonious tunes, dance, and the digital realms of a video game collide.

Imagine an intimate chamber performance conjuring the essence of a video game, merging classical-contemporary string quartet instrumentals with singer-songwriter serenades for piano and voice, with contemporary dance, crafting a realm of auditory magic mirroring the gothic splendour and gameplay of the space opera that is Butterfly Wars.

The contemporary work is a collaborative dance piece between Gut Reaction Theatre Company and Lou McMahon Ensemble+, infusing it with a rhythmic vitality mirroring the odyssey of our enigmatic heroine as she transcends into super-intelligence. These movements encapsulate the debate surrounding AI and its potential risks to humanity.

Louise McMahon is a multidisciplinary artist whose musical abilities span across various genres such as classical, media, contemporary, and folk-rock, where she pushes the limits of sound and composition as a genre-fluid artist. Her recent solo piano work is described as “immersive and rapturous” by Bernard Clarke, RTÉ Lyric FM.

Louise has collaborated with well-known artists, including Terry Woods of The Pogues. Louise’s work has been showcased in numerous media outlets. Her folk-rock songs garnered attention, with A River being featured on The Apprentice reality television show, and distributed nationally by the Irish Daily Mail newspaper. Wide Eyed Lady featured on Ultimate Guide to Irish Folk by the ARC music record label.
