Dark-folk Irish songwriter Kilkelly will be joined by a full band to celebrate the 2024 release of his sophomore album, Solip, a treatise of the mania and yearning of a modern world searching for meaning.
Kilkelly’s songwriting melds strange bedfellows of yearnful, hopeful ballads and macabre lyrics, with playful and unexpected rhythms – a cozy Irish pub with a warm fire, and a smoky Berlin cabaret in equal measure.
Yield to an utterly unique evening of original music influenced by Irish balladeers like Lisa O’Neill, Paul Brady, Lankum and off-kilter acts like Tom Waits and Thelonious Monk.
Sa, 29 June – Berlin, Gustav Adolf Kirche
Fri., 5 July – Leipzig, Philippuskirche
Sa., 13 July – Köln, Christuskirche
Kilkelly is an Irish folk singer/songwriter firmly in the firmament of the Irish tradition, weaving a unique finger-picking style with narrative, character-driven lyrics that are full of yearning, misgivings and unfortunate down-and-outs. He has been a staple of Berlin’s thriving ‘dark folk’ scene since his debut self-titled EP in April 2017. Kilkelly is currently recording his follow-up record Solip set for release in late 2023.
As part of Famous Gold Watch Records, Berlin, working with producer, Cameron Laing (Universal), Kilkelly’s debut album The Prick & The Petal was released as an art book in collaboration with artist, Stephanie Hannon, in September 2019 at Gustav Adolf Cathedral, Berlin.
