German public broadcaster WDR welcomes new Irish head conductor David Brophy for an inaugural lunchtime concert with the WDR Funkhausorchester. The concert programme will feature Irish composition and will be broadcast live on WDR 3 and performed in front of a concert hall audience. This concert is part of Zeitgeist Irland 24.

Tuilleadh eolaisDavid Brophy was born in Dublin and following studies in Ireland, England and Holland, he was appointed Apprentice Conductor with Chamber Choir Ireland. David Brophy is largely known for his former collaboration with the orchestras of RTÉ, the Irish public broadcasting company. In particular, as principal conductor of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, he has led a variety of high-profile musical projects. Collaborations with musicians such as Lang Lang, U2, Nicola Benedetti and Sinéad O’Connor, as well as the opening of the Special Olympics World Games in front of 80,000 spectators, demonstrate David Brophy’s versatility and innovative spirit. David has broadcast on RTÉ, BBC, CBC (Canada), Sky Arts 2 television and across Europe for the EBU. He was formerly a board-member of Ireland’s Contemporary Music Centre.
