There are a number of Zeitgeist Irland 24 exhibitions of Irish artists taking place during Berlin Art Week – an important fixture in the German cultural calendar that runs from 11th – 15th September – a week-long programme of contemporary art spread across the city in art institutions, an art fair, and countless commercial art galleries and independent art spaces. Here is an overview to help you prepare your art-week schedule:
Artist Mariechen Danz presents edge out, a significant solo exhibition in prestigious Berlinerische Galerie in Kreuzberg with a live performance during the opening on 12th September. Danz has risen to prominence in Germany with her large installations and performance work. The exhibition runs 31st March 2025.

The group exhibition Turbo Global: Eine irische Erzählung continues through September at Schloss Britz in Neukölln. The group exhibition featuring Elaine Byrne, Mariechen Danz, Seán Lynch, Nevan Lehart, Niamh McCann, and Michele Horrigan, examines the effects of turbo capitalism in a specifically Irish context and runs until 10th October.

German curating collective Gossip Gossip Gossip present a new exhibition Domestic Optimism 3 by Irish artist Lyónn Wolf at Scriptings in Wedding. Turning a queer working-class gaze onto architecture, social housing and modernism, the exhibition opens 8th September, and includes a programme of art, film screenings and talks until 29th September.

The art project Libraries of Rest by artist Ciara Barker takes place at transmediale studio in Wedding. This immersive installation exploring the radical potential of resting is curated by Aoife Donnellan, and opens with a reception on 11th of September. The exhibition runs until 22nd September.

Artistic duo Tom o’ Doherty & Kata Kovacs will present their project All Woven of Dream and Error at Hosek Contemporary in Mitte from 11th-15th September. The exhibition explores abandoned railway lines, and the emergence of machine learning, through film and sound works. Opening reception is 12th September, and the exhibition concludes with a live concert on 15th September.

Saturnalia, a solo exhibition by Conor Walton opens at Galerie Feinart in Charlotteburg on 12th September and explores through figurative painting allegorical fantasy, the realism of sensuality, the provocation of the absurd. The exhibition runs until 24th.

The programme of ANIMA MUNDI #5 focuses on environmental relationships through sound art and cultural exchange with a range of Irish and international artists in events and walks around Berlin and Brandenburg. Curated by Errant Sound, it launches at on 12th September at Leibig 12 in Friedrichshain with sound art by Irish artist Joseph Young and Irish label Farpoint Recordings. The programme runs until 1st November.
