Zeitgeist Irland 24 draws to a close
30 December 2024
Zeitgeist Irland 24 was a year-long Irish arts programme of over 400 events in over 100 towns and cities across Germany
With a year-long programme of over 400 events in over 100 towns and cities across Germany, Zeitgeist Irland 24 – an initiative of Culture Ireland and the Embassy of Ireland in Germany – was a landmark year of Irish arts and culture, presenting a new generation of Irish artists, representing the richness and diversity of Irish culture, and capturing the spirit of a changing nation.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of the artists, presenters and audiences who participated throughout the year, and who, along with our institutional and media partners, ensured that the programme was such a great success. We would particularly like to thank Zeitgeist Irland 24 promotional partner Entdecke Irland for the support.
“It is the first initiative of this kind that Ireland has delivered in Germany and, in the years ahead, we expect to see the long-lasting benefits of the cultural connections forged through this memorable year of Irish contemporary arts.”
H.E. Maeve Collins, Ambassador of Ireland to Germany
“We have undoubtedly achieved our key aims for the programme – of expanding the reach of Irish arts and culture across the territory and more importantly, developing and deepening relationships between Irish artists and their German counterparts.”
Sharon Barry, Director, Culture Ireland
Zeitgeist Irland 24 represented a €2.5 million joint investment in a season of Irish arts and culture in Germany that was launched in March 2023 by Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin, and Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin. The initiative aimed to boost the profile of contemporary Irish arts in Germany, and having now forged thousands of new connections and reached millions of people, we look forward to seeing the prosperous outcomes in the years ahead.
